Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Coup on Wacker Drive

================================================================================
At 10:00 AM on Monday morning, the 50th-floor boardroom of the Bennett Global Tower in downtown Chicago was packed to maximum capacity.
Over fifty major institutional shareholders, commercial banking partners, national media correspondents, and high-powered corporate litigators sat around the sixty-foot oval glass table.
At the head of the table stood Julian Bennett.
He adjusted his silk tie, clearing his throat before the blinding flashes of media cameras.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the board,” Julian began, his voice projecting smooth, practiced authority. “For the past two years, our family has carried a heavy, tragic burden. My cousin, Alexander Bennett, suffered catastrophic physical and neurological trauma that has left him completely incapacitated.”
Julian clicked a remote, illuminating two massive projection screens on the wall.
Falsified medical telemetry, forged psychiatric assessments, and Dr. Vance’s official diagnostic reports filled the screens.
“It pains my heart to present this,” Julian continued, feigning a deep, emotional sigh. “However, as the primary fiduciary guardian of this enterprise, I must formally introduce Resolution 402: the immediate removal of Alexander Bennett from the office of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and the transfer of all corporate voting proxies to myself.”
The board members began murmuring among themselves. Several senior directors nodded in reluctant agreement.
“The proxy motion requires a second,” Julian smiled triumphantly.
“I second the motion,” Director Sterling said from the middle of the table.
“All in favor of ratifying Julian Bennett as Chairman—?”
BANG.
The heavy, soundproof double frosted glass doors of the boardroom were blown wide open.
Every head in the room snapped toward the entrance.
Two armed federal marshals stepped inside, followed by Senior Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Miller and Chief Detective Marcus Stone of the Illinois State Police Financial Crimes Task Force.
Julian’s smile froze. “What is the meaning of this intrusion?! This is a private executive shareholder assembly!”
“This is an active federal crime scene, Mr. Bennett,” Prosecutor Miller announced, her voice echoing through the silent chamber.

And then, walking through the doors behind the federal agents, with long, thunderous, effortless strides, came Alexander Bennett.
