Chapter 7 - The Night Westbrook Industries Froze

Adrian remained free on bail while prosecutors prepared the criminal case.
He used an old administrator account to access Westbrook Industries remotely.
At 11:06 one night, production systems stopped.
Vendor payments froze.
Employee retirement portals displayed zero balances.
Panic spread across the company.
Adrian released a statement claiming the board’s new leadership had destroyed operations.
He offered to return and rescue the company.
It was a hostage strategy disguised as competence.
Priya Warren activated disaster-recovery systems.
The company’s backups restored critical operations within three hours.
Forensic analysts traced the intrusion to a private office Celeste owned through Northbridge.
Federal agents arrived.
Adrian was inside with Lucas and two technology contractors.
They found forged board resolutions, destruction schedules, cash, and airline tickets.
Adrian planned to create a crisis, recover his title, then flee after moving remaining funds.
The contractors cooperated immediately.
Lucas did too.
He claimed Adrian pressured him.
Messages showed Lucas participated willingly, but his testimony strengthened the case.
Adrian’s bail was revoked.
As agents took him away, he shouted toward the cameras:
“My wife sabotaged everything.”
Even then, Emily remained his preferred container for blame.
The company recovered.
No retirement money vanished permanently.
The numbers shown to employees had been altered, not removed.
Still, the terror was real.
Thousands of workers had opened accounts and believed their futures were gone.
At the next board meeting, Priya announced full restitution protections and independent custody of retirement assets.
Never again would a Westbrook family member control them.
The company survived the night Adrian tried to freeze it.

More importantly, it learned how not to depend on him.
