Chapter 9 - THE MAN WHO CHOSE THE TRUTH

Dominic's internal review found that a subsidiary had been used to move money connected to Victor Hale.
The company had been managed by Dominic's cousin, Rafael Serrano.
Rafael had concealed the transactions.
Dominic stared at the report.
For years, he'd allowed trusted relatives to operate with little oversight.
He'd believed loyalty was enough.
Now he saw the cost.
He called his attorneys.
"Preserve everything."
They nodded.
"Notify the investigators."
One attorney hesitated.
"Dominic, this could expose other operations."
Dominic looked at him.
"I know."
The decision wasn't noble.
Not entirely.
Dominic understood that his criminal past had consequences.
He couldn't simply announce he was changing and expect the world to forgive him.
But he could stop making things worse.
He provided relevant records through counsel.
He stepped away from several businesses.
He began cooperating with investigators.
The process was dangerous.
Some associates threatened him.
Others abandoned him.
But Dominic continued.
One evening, Daniel entered his office.
"Boss, Rafael wants a meeting."
Dominic looked up.
"With his attorney present."
Daniel nodded.
Then asked, "What about Miss Palmer?"
Dominic looked toward the window.
"She deserves a life that isn't controlled by mine."
Daniel hesitated.
"Do you love her?"
Dominic closed his eyes.
"Yes."
Daniel waited.
May you like
Dominic continued.
"And that's why I won't ask her to overlook what I've done."
