Chapter 7 - THE NAME ON THE TRANSFER

Audrey took the document to her attorney.
The attorney examined it carefully.
"This doesn't prove Mr. Serrano owns the receiving company."
Audrey frowned.
"His name is right there."
"A surname is not proof of control. We need authenticated records."
Audrey nodded.
But she couldn't stop thinking about it.
Had Dominic known?
Had he come to her family's dinner to protect her?
Or to protect himself?
She called him.
He answered after the second ring.
"Audrey."
"Did you know about my father's money?"
Silence.
Then:
"I knew Victor Hale was running questionable investments."
"That's not what I asked."
"No."
She swallowed.
"Did your organization receive the money?"
Dominic hesitated.
"I don't know."
Audrey closed her eyes.
"That's not good enough."
"You're right."
He took a breath.
"Send the document to your attorney. Have them request authenticated records. I'll instruct my legal team to preserve anything relevant."
Audrey frowned.
"Why?"
"Because if someone used my companies to move stolen money, I want it exposed."
She stared.
"And if it was you?"
Dominic was quiet.
Then said, "Then you should expose me too."
Audrey swallowed.
For the first time, she wondered whether Dominic Serrano was capable of becoming a different man.
May you like
Not because she wanted him to.
But because he might finally want it himself.
