Chapter 8 - THE MAN WHO BOUGHT EVERYTHING

Malcolm Voss was one of Boston's wealthiest developers.
He owned luxury towers.
Hotels.
Private clubs.
And a portfolio of waterfront properties worth hundreds of millions.
He also had political connections.
Influence over lenders.
And a reputation for crushing anyone who challenged him.
Preston Hayes had been his protégé.
Together, they had targeted Bennett Construction.
Arthur's company owned development rights to several properties near Harbor Street.
Those rights stood in the way of Voss's redevelopment plans.
Rather than negotiate fairly, Voss and Preston engineered a financial collapse.
They used forged signatures.
False debt claims.
And manipulated loan agreements.
By the time Arthur realized what was happening, the company was already trapped.
The stress contributed to his stroke.
Sloan listened as the attorneys explained the evidence.
Her hands trembled.
"They did this deliberately."
Roman nodded.
"Yes."
She looked down.
"My father lost everything."
Roman's expression softened.
"I know."
Sloan took a breath.
May you like
Then looked up.
"Then we're going to get it back."
