Chapter 13 - THE ARCHITECT WHO BUILT HER OWN FUTURE

Sloan returned to university.

She completed her architecture degree.

Then began working with a respected restoration firm.

Her first major project was the rehabilitation of a historic community theater.

The building had been abandoned for years.

Its roof leaked.

Its walls were cracked.

Its original details were hidden beneath decades of careless renovations.

Sloan loved it immediately.

She spent months studying the structure.

Designing repairs.

Working with engineers.

And helping restore the building to public use.

On opening night, Arthur Bennett attended in his wheelchair.

He sat in the front row.

Roman stood beside Sloan.

When the lights came on, Arthur began crying.

Sloan knelt beside him.

"Dad?"

He looked at her.

Then whispered:

"Beautiful."

Her eyes filled.

She smiled.

"Thank you."

Arthur took her hand.

"Your... work."

Sloan began crying.

Roman looked away, giving them privacy.

For the first time in years, Arthur wasn't looking at the ruins of his company.

He was looking at what his daughter had built.
