Chapter 9 - THE BETRAYAL BEHIND THE ANNIVERSARY DINNER

The truth about Graham Voss emerged through financial records.
He had been stealing from Alexander's companies for years.
Sophia had helped him conceal transfers.
Together, they created false evidence implicating my father's name.
Their plan was simple.
Separate Alexander from me.
Keep him distracted.
And use the chaos to move money.
But something went wrong.
Graham discovered I was pregnant.
He forged the letter.
Intercepted my correspondence.
And convinced Alexander I wanted no contact.
Sophia had known.
For five years.
When Alexander told me, I felt sick.
I sat beside the window in my hotel room.
Oliver was asleep.
The city glittered below.
“She knew about my baby?”
Alexander nodded.
“Yes.”
I closed my eyes.
He continued.
“She helped Graham.”
I looked at him.
“And you trusted her.”
His face tightened.
“Yes.”
I laughed bitterly.
“You trusted everyone except your wife.”
Alexander looked down.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Then he whispered:
“That's the truth.”
I stared.
He continued.
“And I will spend the rest of my life regretting it.”
I looked away.
May you like
Because regret was easy.
Trust was not.
