Chapter 9 - THE BETRAYAL INSIDE THE ROMANO EMPIRE

The investigation into Isabella's relationship with Adrian Voss revealed another problem.
Voss had been receiving confidential information about Romano business operations.
Contracts.
Shipping schedules.
Investment plans.
Several employees had been paid to provide documents.
Matteo's organization had long operated through a mixture of legitimate companies and criminal enterprises.
Now the exposure threatened both.
Luca placed a folder on his desk.
“Boss, we have a serious problem.”
Matteo opened it.
Financial records.
Emails.
Transfer confirmations.
He stared.
“How much?”
“Nearly eight million dollars in losses.”
Matteo leaned back.
“Who else is involved?”
Luca hesitated.
“Your cousin, Enzo.”
Matteo went still.
Enzo Romano had been his closest adviser for fifteen years.
He had attended the anniversary dinner.
He had watched Natalie leave.
And he had said nothing.
Matteo closed the folder.
“Call the attorneys.”
Luca looked surprised.
“Not the men?”
Matteo shook his head.
“No more threats.”

He looked toward the window.
“I've already lost enough because I thought power meant I could do whatever I wanted.”
