Chapter 11 - THE BABY WHO CHANGED EVERYTHING

The baby arrived six weeks early.
Natalie was at home when her water broke.
Rebecca drove her to the hospital.
The medical team moved quickly.
Natalie was frightened.
But she wasn't alone.
Rebecca held her hand.
A nurse explained each step.
The obstetrician monitored the baby's condition.
After several difficult hours, a small cry filled the delivery room.
Natalie began sobbing.
A girl.
Tiny.
Beautiful.
Alive.
The nurse gently placed the baby against Natalie's chest when it was safe to do so.
Natalie looked down.
Her daughter had dark hair.
A tiny nose.
And the most determined expression she'd ever seen.
“Hello, sweetheart,” Natalie whispered.
The baby moved her hand.
Natalie laughed through tears.
“I'm your mommy.”
She kissed her daughter's forehead.
“And I've been waiting for you for a very long time.”
---
Matteo received the call later that evening.
Natalie's attorney informed him that the baby had been born and that Natalie would decide when she was ready for visitors.
Matteo sat motionless.
“A girl?”
“Yes.”
He closed his eyes.
“Is she healthy?”
“She is receiving appropriate care because she arrived early.”
Matteo swallowed.
“And Natalie?”
“Recovering.”
He looked toward the window.
“Thank you.”
After the call ended, Matteo began crying.
Not because he had been excluded.
May you like
Because his daughter had entered the world.
And he finally understood that fatherhood would require something far greater than his name.
