Chapter 8 - TESSA MORGAN, RN

Tessa finished nursing school two years later.
Grant did not pay for it.
She used:
Scholarships.
Hospital tuition reimbursement.
Part-time work.
Loans.
Messy.
Real.
On graduation day, Noah was three.
He ran toward her holding a bouquet upside down.
“Tessa!”
She crouched.
He crashed into her.
Grant followed more slowly.
He wore no business suit.
Just a blue shirt.
He handed her a small box.
She frowned.
“What?”
“Not money.”
“Good.”
“Open it.”
Inside was the broken ceramic fragment from the vase.
Smoothed.
Mounted in a tiny frame.
Inscription:
You stood between him and the blow.
Tessa stared.
Then looked at Grant.
“That is extremely dramatic.”
“I had help.”
“From who?”
“Celia.”
“Of course.”
She smiled.
Then Grant said:
“Dinner?”
She looked at him.
“As what?”
He inhaled.
“A date.”
For the first time, she did not say no immediately.
But she still said:
“Not yet.”
Grant nodded.
“Okay.”
That mattered.
Three months later, she asked him.
“Dinner?”
He blinked.
“As what?”
She smiled.
“Try to keep up.”
May you like
That was the beginning.
