Chapter 14 - THE WEDDING WITH FIVE FLOWER CHILDREN

We married six months later.

A small ceremony.

A garden overlooking Lake Michigan.

White flowers.

Soft music.

And five children who refused to behave like ordinary wedding guests.

Ethan stood beside me as my best man.

Olivia carried the rings.

Emma and Grace scattered flower petals.

Lily insisted on walking directly in front of Claire.

When Claire appeared, I forgot how to breathe.

She wore a simple ivory dress.

Her auburn hair fell over her shoulders.

She looked beautiful.

But what struck me most was her expression.

She wasn't frightened.

She wasn't being pressured.

She was smiling.

Because she wanted to be there.

When she reached me, I took her hands.

"Hi."

She laughed softly.

"Hi."

The officiant began.

I barely heard the words.

I was looking at Claire.

The woman who had saved my life.

The woman I'd lost.

The mother of my daughter.

The mother who had raised four girls through grief and fear.

The woman who had taught me that love wasn't a transaction.

When it was time for vows, I took a breath.

"Claire, I can't promise a perfect life."

She smiled.

"I know."

"But I promise to show up."

My voice broke.

"For you. For Olivia. For Emma, Grace, Lily, and Ethan."

The children smiled.

"I promise to listen when you're afraid, stand beside you when you're strong, and never confuse your independence with distance."

Claire's eyes filled.

Then she spoke.

"Alexander, I once believed loving you meant losing myself."

My chest tightened.

She smiled.

"But you helped me understand that love can be a place where we grow."

She squeezed my hands.

"I choose you."

I smiled through tears.

"And I choose you."

When we kissed, Lily shouted:

"FINALLY!"

Everyone laughed.

May you like

And for the first time in my life, the happiest day wasn't about power.

It was about family.
