Chapter 14 - THE MAN WHO LEARNED TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS

Vincent and Nora had remained apart during much of the investigation.
He respected her decision to leave.
He didn't pressure her.
Didn't send expensive gifts.
Didn't use his influence to force a conversation.
Instead, he worked to dismantle the criminal structures that had enabled the conspiracy.
He cooperated with authorities.
Accepted responsibility where appropriate.
And focused on caring for Camila.
Months later, Nora visited the Russo estate.
Camila was sitting in the garden.
Vincent stood nearby.
When he saw Nora, he looked surprised.
“Hello.”
She smiled faintly.
“Hello.”
He hesitated.
“How's your father?”
“Better.”
Vincent nodded.
“I'm glad.”
Silence stretched between them.
Then he said:
“Nora, I'm sorry.”
She looked at him.
He continued.
“For what my family did.”
“For what I failed to question.”
“For the years your family lost.”
His voice broke.
“I know an apology can't fix it.”
Nora nodded.
“No.”
Vincent lowered his eyes.
“But it's a start.”
She studied him.
Then smiled faintly.
“Yes.”

He looked up.
For the first time, hope entered his expression.
