Chapter 7 - THE CONTRACT HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT

Elliot's attorney discovered the first irregularity in the Marigold Theater documents.

A proposed sale agreement had been prepared without Elliot's authorization.

His signature appeared on an attached consent form.

But Elliot had never signed it.

He studied the document carefully.

Then looked at his attorney.

“That's not my handwriting.”

The attorney nodded.

“We'll have it examined.”

The investigation revealed that someone had attempted to move the property into a holding company controlled by Enzo.

The paperwork was incomplete.

But the intention was clear.

Elliot was furious.

Not loud.

Not explosive.

Simply furious.

Norah found him sitting in the theater's empty auditorium.

He held the forged document in his hands.

“They thought I wouldn't notice.”

She sat beside him.

“I know.”

“They thought I couldn't understand it.”

She nodded.

Elliot looked at her.

“I'm tired of being underestimated.”

Norah reached for his hand.

Then stopped.

“May I?”

He nodded.

She took it.

“You don't have to prove your intelligence to people who refuse to see it.”

Elliot looked down.

“But I do have to protect my property.”

She smiled.

“Yes.”

He took a breath.

“Then that's what I'll do.”

And for the first time, Elliot Russo began preparing to confront his family on his own terms.
