Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT REY DISAPPEARED

Rey vanished before investigators could question him.
His apartment was empty.
His phone had been destroyed.
His vehicle was found near an abandoned warehouse outside Tacoma.
At first, authorities suspected he had fled.
Then a photograph arrived on Sadi's phone.
Rey sat in a metal chair.
His face was bruised.
Behind him stood a man wearing a dark suit.
The message beneath the photograph read:
TELL MORETTI TO STOP DIGGING.
Sadi showed the photograph to Agent Hale.
The agent studied it.
"Do you recognize the room?"
Sadi shook her head.
"Look carefully."
She examined the background.
A yellow safety sign.
A green metal door.
A large industrial fan.
Then she remembered.
Rey had once taken her to a storage facility near the waterfront.
He told her to wait in the car.
Through the window, she had seen the same green door.
She gave Hale the location.
Federal agents searched the building.
They found signs that someone had been held there.
But Rey was gone.
On the floor lay a torn shipping label.
The company name was Westhaven Marine Services.
Victor Serrano's company.
Leo received the news while meeting with his attorneys.
He stared at the photograph.
"Victor is cleaning up his own people."
Donnie nodded.
"And Rey knows enough to hurt him."
Leo looked toward the harbor.
For years, he had believed the most dangerous men were the ones who openly threatened violence.

Now he understood something worse.
The truly dangerous men were those who made cruelty look like routine business.
