Chapter 15 - THE WOMAN WHO CHANGED TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS INTO A FUTURE

The wedding took place the following spring.
Small.
Elegant.
Private.
Nora wore an ivory dress with simple lines.
Roman wore a charcoal suit.
Marco stood beside him.
Sophie stood beside Nora.
The ceremony overlooked Lake Michigan.
The water shimmered beneath the afternoon sun.
When Roman took Nora's hands, his expression softened.
“I promise to love you honestly.”
His voice trembled.
“To respect your independence.”
“To listen when you tell me I'm wrong.”
The guests laughed.
Nora smiled through tears.
“I promise to tell you the truth.”
“To stand beside you.”
“And to never let you forget that numbers are only part of the story.”
They kissed.
The guests applauded.
At the reception, Roman stood to make a toast.
He looked toward Nora.
“Years ago, I believed money could solve almost anything.”
He smiled faintly.
“Then a waitress walked into my private dining room and told me I was making a twelve-million-dollar mistake.”
The guests laughed.
Roman continued.
“She didn't know what would happen afterward.”
“She didn't know whether I'd listen.”
“She didn't know whether speaking up would cost her job.”
His expression softened.
“But she told the truth anyway.”
He raised his glass.
“To Nora.”
Nora stood.
She looked around the room.
Sophie was smiling.
Marco raised his glass.
Evelyn nodded.
Nora took a breath.
“I spent three years believing that surviving meant disappearing.”
Her voice trembled.
“I thought safety meant being invisible.”
She looked at Roman.
“Then I learned something.”
The room quieted.
“Being seen by the right people doesn't make you weak.”
She smiled.
“It gives you a reason to stop hiding.”
The guests applauded.
Later that evening, Nora stepped onto the terrace.
The lake stretched beyond the gardens.
Roman joined her.
“Everything okay?”
She smiled.
“Perfect.”
He took her hand.
“Any regrets?”
She laughed.
“About what?”
“Correcting my financial statements.”
Nora pretended to think.
“Maybe one.”
Roman raised an eyebrow.
“What?”
She smiled.
“I should have charged you consulting fees.”
Roman burst out laughing.
He wrapped an arm around her waist.
She leaned against him.
Years earlier, Nora had been a woman with no safe place to stand.
A woman who hid behind a false name.
A woman who believed powerful men would always control her future.
Now she had reclaimed her identity.
Her career.
Her friendships.
And her freedom.
The twelve million dollars had never been the real prize.
The truth was.
Roman kissed her forehead.
“Ready to go inside?”
Nora smiled.
“Yes.”
Together, they walked toward the lights.
Toward family.
Toward love.
May you like
Toward a future neither had expected.
And this time, Nora Gallagher—Eleanor Grace—had no reason to disappear.
