Chapter 13 - THE WOMAN WHO GOT HER NAME BACK

Nora returned to finance.
Not as a waitress.
Not as a hidden identity.
But as Eleanor Grace, a professional who had survived fraud, threats, and years of fear.
She accepted a position with an independent forensic accounting firm.
Her first assignment involved reviewing financial controls for a nonprofit organization.
She loved the work.
The numbers.
The patterns.
The challenge of finding truth hidden inside complicated records.
She also began speaking privately with other professionals about the importance of reporting misconduct and protecting whistleblowers.
One afternoon, she visited Bellaforte.
Gerald stared when he saw her.
“Nora?”
She smiled.
“Hello, Gerald.”
He looked at her tailored navy suit.
“New job?”
She nodded.
“Something like that.”
Rosy, one of the longtime kitchen staff, hugged her.
“We missed you.”
Nora smiled.
“I missed you too.”
She sat at the counter.
Ordered coffee.
And watched the restaurant move around her.
Two years earlier, she'd arrived here desperate to disappear.
Now she could finally sit in public without pretending to be someone else.
Her phone vibrated.
A message from Roman.
Dinner tonight?
Nora smiled.
She typed:
Only if you promise not to bring financial statements.
His reply came immediately.
No promises.
May you like
She laughed.
For the first time, her future felt like something she could choose.
