The investigation attracted attention.
Old enemies resurfaced.
Carlo Ventresca, now living under another name, learned that Gabriel was examining the past.
Threatening messages began arriving.
Gabriel increased security around his businesses.
But Tessa refused to let armed guards follow her everywhere.
“I'm not part of your organization,” she told him.
Gabriel nodded.
“I know.”
“Then don't treat me like property.”
His expression changed.
“I wasn't trying to.”
“Intent doesn't erase impact.”
Gabriel looked down.
She continued.
“If you're going to help Mara, do it because it's right. Not because you want to control the outcome.”
He was silent.
Then nodded.
“You're right.”
Tessa blinked.
“Did Gabriel Rossi just admit I was right?”
He smiled faintly.
“Don't tell anyone.”
