Chapter 7 - THE TEN MILLION DOLLARS HE COULDN'T BUY HER WITH

Vincent transferred the promised ten million dollars into a legally documented escrow account.
Hannah stared at the paperwork.
“You're serious.”
“I made a promise.”
She looked up.
“Most people in your position don't keep promises to waitresses.”
Vincent's mouth tightened.
“Then most people in my position are fools.”
Hannah studied him.
“I don't want your money if it comes with conditions.”
“It doesn't.”
“No employment contract?”
“No.”
“No requirement to stay near you?”
“No.”
“No obligation to help with the journal?”
Vincent paused.
Then shook his head.
“No obligation.”
Hannah looked at the documents.
For the first time in her adult life, she could imagine paying for her mother's care without counting every dollar.
But money couldn't answer the question that mattered most.
Where was her father?
Hannah agreed to continue translating.
Not for Vincent.
For Peter Kovalenko.
They worked in a secure office with Cole Mercer nearby.
Vincent provided access to records and independent legal counsel.
Hannah insisted on keeping copies of everything she translated.
He agreed.
Over the next several days, the journal revealed a complicated network of false invoices, shell companies, and coded shipment references.
The evidence pointed toward Raymond Pike.
But one entry stood out.
A location.
The Bell Tower.
Hannah stared at it.
“That isn't a warehouse.”
Vincent frowned.
“What is it?”
She looked up.
“It's a church.”
“Where?”
“Outside Milwaukee.”
Vincent went still.
“Near the place your father supposedly died?”
Hannah nodded.

The room grew quiet.
Then Vincent said, “We're going.”
