Chapter 11 - THE MAN WHO GAVE UP HIS THRONE

Diego's cooperation with authorities changed his life.
He had spent years leading the Ramos syndicate.
He had believed power was the only thing that kept him safe.
But the investigation forced him to confront the consequences of his choices.
He worked with legal counsel to address his involvement in unlawful activities.
He stepped away from criminal leadership.
He focused on legitimate businesses.
The process cost him money.
Influence.
And relationships.
But he also began therapy.
At first, he resisted.
He didn't like talking about Emilio.
He didn't like admitting fear.
He didn't like acknowledging that revenge had become his identity.
One day, his therapist asked:
"What would happen if you stopped being the man everyone feared?"
Diego stared.
"I don't know."
The therapist nodded.
"Then perhaps that's worth discovering."
Over time, Diego began rebuilding his life.
He sold the estate.
Moved into a smaller home.
And stopped surrounding himself with people who agreed with everything he said.
He also respected Navy's independence.
He didn't send gifts.
Didn't demand meetings.
Didn't use his influence to interfere with her life.
Once, he wrote her a letter.
Navy,
I used you as a weapon against people who had already hurt you.
I am ashamed of that.
I don't expect you to forgive me.
I hope you're safe.
Diego.
Navy read the letter.
Then placed it in a drawer.

For a long time, she didn't answer.
And Diego accepted that.
