Chapter 6 - PETER TALKS

Peter talked for eleven hours.

Michael planned everything.

The shell companies.

Forged signatures.

Insurance.

Vehicle tampering.

Sedatives.

Peter admitted helping move money.

He denied agreeing to kill Victoria or Mia.

Investigators played Mia’s recording.

Peter cried.

“I thought he was bluffing.”

The prosecutor asked:

“You continued working with him?”

“Yes.”

“Then whether you believed him is something a jury can evaluate.”

Peter provided locations.

Passwords.

Accounts.

One account contained $6.3 million in Michael’s personal control.

Another held funds diverted from the children's foundation.

Arthur learned that $4 million intended for a pediatric cardiac wing had been moved.

That made the story national.

Not billionaire family drama anymore.

Children's charity money.

Michael's supporters vanished quickly.

His company board removed him.

Banks froze accounts.

Partners sued.

His mansion—Victoria’s mansion legally—became evidence.

Then Michael made one last attempt at control.

From jail, through his attorney, he filed for emergency custody of Mia.

He claimed Arthur and Victoria were coaching the child to fabricate allegations.

Victoria received the petition while still wearing a wrist brace.

She laughed.

Then cried.

Then laughed again.

Arthur wanted to destroy him in court.

Victoria stopped him.

“No.”

Arthur frowned.

“I will.”

It was the first time she sounded like herself again.

At the hearing, Victoria entered wearing a simple navy dress.

No press statement.

No drama.

Michael appeared remotely.

He stared at her.

For years, that stare controlled her nervous system.

Now she looked back.

His attorney attacked.

Mental health.

Medication.

Emotional instability.

Parental alienation.

Then Victoria’s attorney asked one question:

“Mrs. Reed, why did you remain in the marriage?”

Victoria looked toward the judge.

“Because I believed leaving would make him more dangerous.”

Then:

“I was right.”

Evidence followed.

The brake line.

Recording.

Sedatives.

Mia’s audio.

Hidden cameras.

Michael’s custody petition was denied.

Supervised communication?

Also denied pending criminal proceedings.

The judge entered protective orders.

As officers led Michael away from the courthouse holding area, he looked at Victoria.

“You think your father saved you?”

She stopped.

“No.”

Michael smiled bitterly.

Victoria continued:

“My daughter did.”

Then walked away.

Arthur heard.

So did Mia.

May you like

Mia squeezed her mother’s hand.
