Chapter 6 - THE HUSBAND WHO STOPPED DEFENDING HER

Adrian confronted Vanessa three days later.
He told me about it afterward.
They had been staying at a private residence outside London.
The honeymoon was canceled.
Their marriage had lasted less than a week before the first serious crisis.
Adrian showed her the inventory sheet.
“Why is your signature on this?”
Vanessa barely glanced at it.
“Because I worked for Bellmont.”
“You knew these were Maya's father's pieces?”
She rolled her eyes.
“Everyone knows Lorenzo Bellini made them.”
Adrian stared.
“Then why didn't you say anything?”
“Because it wasn't relevant.”
He shook his head.
“You called Maya scum while displaying her dead father's work at our wedding.”
Vanessa crossed her arms.
“Her father sold his business.”
“Did he sell those pieces?”
“I don't know.”
“Then why are you so certain your family owns them?”
She looked away.
Adrian continued.
“Did you know the collection survived the fire?”
Silence.
“Vanessa.”
She turned.
“You're choosing her over me.”
He shook his head.
“This isn't about choosing someone.”
“Of course it is.”
“No.”
He placed the inventory sheet on the table.
“It's about whether you're telling me the truth.”
Vanessa stared at him.
May you like
Then whispered:
“You have no idea what my father is capable of.”
