Chapter 11 - THE FAMILY THAT CHOSE A DIFFERENT FUTURE

The legal case against Gabriel continued.

Evidence showed financial misconduct, threats, and involvement in Sofia's disappearance.

The process was complicated.

But the truth was finally being examined.

Roman cooperated with investigators.

He also began separating his legitimate businesses from criminal operations.

The process was difficult.

Some associates resisted.

Others left.

But Roman continued.

Sofia decided to build a life of her own.

She enrolled in a design program.

Moved into a townhouse near Ethan's school.

And began creating a future that did not depend on Roman's wealth.

Their divorce was finalized the following year.

It was peaceful.

Painful.

But respectful.

Ethan struggled at first.

He wanted his parents together.

But with support, he gradually understood that both parents could love him without being married.

One afternoon, Ethan asked Roman:

"Are you sad?"

Roman looked at him.

"Sometimes."

Ethan nodded.

"Me too."

Roman sat beside him.

"It's okay to be sad."

The boy leaned against him.

"Mom says we're still a family."

Roman smiled.

"She's right."

They sat quietly.

Then Ethan whispered:

"Do you think Maya will still come to my birthday?"

Roman laughed softly.

"I'm sure she'd love to."

Maya attended the party.

So did Sofia.

For the first time, the adults in Ethan's life shared a room without pretending everything was perfect.

They simply celebrated the boy they loved.

And that was enough.
