Chapter 10 - THE FALL OF THE VALE FAMILY

The attempted intrusion changed everything.

Investigators linked the detained man to a private contractor used by Richard Vale's companies.

The threatening messages had been sent through accounts connected to Colin's associates.

Colin denied involvement.

Richard claimed the evidence was fabricated.

But the investigation into St. Catherine's continued.

Financial records.

Witness statements.

Recovered patient files.

And testimony from former employees began to establish a larger picture.

Several executives were charged with financial crimes.

Richard was arrested.

Colin faced separate allegations related to threats, coercion, and violence.

The legal process was lengthy.

Some charges were contested.

Some witnesses changed their stories.

But the family that once appeared untouchable was now being examined in public.

Paige testified about what she had experienced.

She did not exaggerate.

She did not soften the truth.

When Colin's attorney suggested she had fabricated the abuse to gain Gabriel's protection, Paige looked directly at him.

“No.”

She paused.

“I left because I was afraid he would kill me.”

The courtroom fell silent.

She continued.

“And I stayed away because I wanted to live.”

Afterward, Paige walked outside with Vivian.

Reporters shouted questions.

Cameras flashed.

But Paige didn't lower her head.

She looked toward the courthouse steps.

Gabriel stood waiting.

He didn't approach until she saw him.

Then he opened his arms.

Paige walked into them.

For a moment, she let herself be held.

Then she whispered:

“I did it.”

Gabriel kissed her forehead.

May you like

“Yes,” he said.

“You did.”
