Emily enrolled in evening classes.
She studied business administration.
Worked during the day.
Attended lectures at night.
Sometimes she was exhausted.
Sometimes she cried over assignments.
Sometimes she wondered whether she'd started too late.
Vincent never told her to stop.
He brought coffee.
Helped her practice presentations.
Sat quietly beside her while she studied.
Daniel graduated.
He found a job with an engineering firm.
On the day he received his diploma, Emily cried harder than anyone.
Vincent stood beside her.
“Proud?”
Emily nodded.
“So proud.”
Daniel hugged her.
“You raised me, Em.”
She shook her head.
“No.”
He smiled.
“You did.”
Emily looked at Vincent.
He smiled back.
A year later, Emily received a promotion at Moretti Holdings after an independently reviewed hiring process.
She became a records compliance coordinator.
It wasn't glamorous.
But it was hers.
That evening, Vincent took her to dinner.
He raised his glass.
“To Emily Carter.”
She laughed.
“What did I do?”
He smiled.
“You built a future.”
Emily looked at him.
Then raised her own glass.
“To the people who helped me believe I could.”
