Chapter 12 - THE FALL OF VICTOR SALVATORE

Victor Salvatore was arrested on a cold Monday morning.
Investigators had gathered evidence connecting him to financial misconduct, obstruction, and the alleged tampering with Alessandro's medication.
The reopened investigation into Nathan Moreland's death continued separately.
Victor denied everything.
His attorneys claimed he was being scapegoated by Alessandro.
They argued that the Moretti organization had operated through illegal networks for years and that Victor was simply following orders.
Alessandro did not pretend his past was clean.
He cooperated with investigators through legal counsel.
He acknowledged wrongdoing within his organization and provided records relevant to the investigation.
The process was painful.
It threatened his wealth.
His reputation.
And his freedom.
But Alessandro continued.
Months later, prosecutors announced additional charges based on evidence concerning the freight terminal fire.
Victor and several associates faced allegations connected to Nathan's death.
Elena attended the court proceedings.
She sat quietly.
Sophia remained with Marisol.
When Victor entered the courtroom, he looked toward Elena.
She did not lower her eyes.
During the proceedings, evidence was presented about the altered security records, the unauthorized shipments, and the attempts to conceal what Nathan had discovered.
Witnesses described Victor's instructions.
Financial records showed payments to individuals involved in the operation.
Alessandro testified about his relationship with Victor.
He did not excuse himself.
He acknowledged that he had trusted Victor without demanding proper oversight.
When asked why he finally investigated, Alessandro paused.
Then answered:
“Because a five-year-old girl noticed something everyone else ignored.”
The courtroom fell silent.
Elena began crying.
Victor was ultimately convicted on multiple charges arising from the conspiracy and obstruction.
Further legal proceedings addressed the remaining allegations.
Outside the courthouse, reporters surrounded Alessandro.
One asked:
“Mr. Moretti, do you regret trusting Victor Salvatore?”
Alessandro looked toward Elena.
Then answered:
“I regret the years I spent believing loyalty meant never asking questions.”
That evening, Elena visited Nathan's grave.
She brought white flowers.
Sophia stood beside her.
“Mommy?”
“Yes?”
“Is Daddy happy now?”
Elena knelt.
Her eyes filled.
“I think Daddy would be glad people finally know he was telling the truth.”
Sophia nodded.
Then placed a small drawing beside the flowers.
A black car.
May you like
A yellow sun.
And three stick figures holding hands.
