Chapter 11 - THE FALL OF THE GALLAGHER EMPIRE

The investigation reached a turning point in January.
Audrey's attorney provided preserved financial records to the appropriate authorities.
Independent forensic accountants confirmed that the disputed authorizations had originated from devices Audrey did not control.
Additional evidence connected Northstar's transactions to Preston Hayes and several intermediaries.
The findings led to regulatory scrutiny, civil litigation, and criminal investigations.
Preston's banking connections could no longer protect him from the documents.
Victoria's engagement collapsed.
Charles Gallagher resigned from the company board.
Gallagher Holdings entered a court-supervised restructuring process.
Audrey watched the news from her apartment.
Her father's photograph appeared on the screen.
Then Preston's.
Then Victoria's.
She felt no triumph.
Only exhaustion.
Evelyn called.
"Audrey, the evidence supporting your lack of involvement is strong."
Audrey closed her eyes.
"Thank you."
"There's more."
"What?"
"The independent trustees want to speak with you."
Audrey frowned.
"Why?"
"They believe your restructuring proposals could preserve several viable projects."
She stared.
"After everything?"
"Yes."
Audrey looked toward the window.
For years, she'd worked without recognition.
Now the same people who had ignored her were asking for her expertise.
She took a breath.
"Tell them I'll consider it."
Evelyn smiled.
"Good."
Audrey continued.
"But only under conditions."
"What conditions?"
"Independent governance. Full transparency. No family interference."
Evelyn laughed softly.
"Now you're negotiating."
May you like
Audrey smiled.
"I learned from the best."
