Chapter 10 - Sunlight on the Aspen Slopes

Two years after that frozen afternoon on the cliff, the golden summer sun bathed the sprawling timber terrace and blooming wildflower gardens of our new mountain estate in Aspen, Colorado.
The crisp alpine breeze carried the sweet scent of pine needles, blooming blue columbines, and the pure, unrestrained laughter of a child.
Running freely across the lush green lawn in his little hiking boots was two-year-old Lucas.
He was tall, strong, and radiant with health, his dark eyes sparkling with boundless joy as he chased a golden retriever puppy across the grass under the clear blue sky.
Gabriel walked out onto the cedar deck, wearing a relaxed flannel shirt, laughing as he caught Lucas in the air and tossed him gently over his shoulder.
“Look at our little mountain climber, Evie,” Gabriel smiled warmly, setting Lucas down near the sandbox.
Under the shaded pergola, a banquet table was laid with fresh mountain berry tarts, artisan cheeses, and sparkling peach cider, celebrating the opening of the Lucas Sterling Pediatric Trauma & Mountain Rescue Center, an endowed non-profit foundation providing free specialized medical helicopters and emergency care for families across the Rockies.
I stood by the carved timber balustrade wearing a flowing ivory linen sundress, holding a glass of iced tea, watching my son play in the warm mountain sun.
Under my sole leadership as Chairwoman of the Sterling Medical Consortium, we had expanded our healthcare network nationwide with absolute integrity, honor, and strength.
Lucas came sprinting up the terrace steps on his fast little feet, throwing his chubby arms around my knees with a radiant beam.
“Mommy! Mommy, look! Uncle Gabriel says we can go see the baby deer this afternoon!”
I knelt down on the sunlit timber, scooping my precious, brave boy into a warm, fierce, unbreakable embrace beneath the endless golden sky.

“We can go wherever your heart dreams of, Lucas,” I whispered, kissing his soft cheek.
The icy cliffs, the cruel smiles, the forged policies, and the shadows of betrayal were gone forever. Standing tall in the warmth of truth, surrounded by honor, prosperity, and unconditional love, we were finally whole—a family united forever in everlasting light, peace, and triumphant freedom.
