Chapter 9 - SARAH VILLEROY

I became more public after the divorce.
Not tabloid-public.
Professional.
I accepted the Director of Brand Integration role.
Then joined Villeroy Luxury Group’s operating committee.
People discovered who I was.
Some treated me differently.
Exactly what I had feared.
Doors opened faster.
Invitations multiplied.
Men who never noticed me suddenly found me fascinating.
That confirmed part of why I hid.
But hiding had cost too.
I had mistaken secrecy for protection.
Now I chose boundaries instead.
I told people:
“No.”
Often.
Beautiful word.
I did not announce my net worth.
Did not need to.
I simply stopped pretending my family history was shameful.
Blackwood became home again.
Not because it was grand.
Because I filled it with ordinary things.
Friends.
Sunday brunch.
Books on the stairs.
Shoes by the door.
My assistant once apologized because her son spilled juice on an antique rug.
I looked at the stain.
Then remembered Linda’s strawberries.
“Leave it.”
The rug survived.
May you like
So did civilization.
