Chapter 11 - THE MAN WHO FINALLY PAID

Vittorio Moretti was arrested in January.
The charges included financial crimes, conspiracy, and offenses connected to the attack on Salvatore.
The investigation continued for months.
Several former associates cooperated.
More evidence emerged.
And the man who had once controlled the Moretti family from behind closed doors finally faced consequences he couldn't buy his way out of.
Salvatore watched the news from his study.
He felt no triumph.
Only exhaustion.
Roman entered.
She looked at the television.
“It's over?”
Salvatore nodded.
“The worst of it.”
She approached.
He turned off the screen.
Roman sat beside him.
For a while, neither spoke.
Then she said, “You could have killed him.”
Salvatore looked at her.
“Yes.”
“But you didn't.”
He nodded.
Roman took his hand.
“Thank you.”
Salvatore looked confused.
“For what?”
“For choosing a future with us instead of another grave.”
His eyes filled.
He pulled her close.
And for the first time, he believed he might become the man she'd once loved.
May you like
Not the man he'd been.
The man he could still be.
