Chapter 7 - The Net Closes

Forensic auditor David Miller connected his laptop to the boardroom’s twin 4K projection screens.
The screens illuminated with a forensic timeline of forty-eight illegal wire transfers:
Transaction 1 to 24: $4.2 million funneled to Lumina Horizon Holdings in Belize.
Transaction 25 to 38: $2.6 million used to purchase luxury beachfront real estate in Miami under Brenda Davis’s maiden name.
Transaction 39 to 48: $1.6 million withdrawn in cash and converted into untraceable private equity bonds.
Beside the transactions, high-resolution scans of the forged signatures appeared, analyzed by federal forensic handwriting examiners showing a 100% counterfeit match to my name.
The room erupted into furious shouts from the institutional investors.
“You stole our construction escrow, Sterling?!” shouted Marcus Croft, the lead pension fund investor. “We trusted you with fifty million dollars in municipal bonds!”
Brenda jumped out of her chair, grabbing her designer coat. “I was just following orders! Mark told me to set up the entities! He told me it was tax planning!”
“Ms. Davis,” Agent Morales said, stepping in front of the exit. “Your personal text messages from last Thursday recovered from the server show you actively demanding a fifty percent cut of the embezzled funds in exchange for maintaining the dual bookkeeping system.”
Morales pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs.
“Brenda Davis, you are under arrest for Conspiracy to Commit Grand Wire Fraud, Money Laundering, and Falsification of Corporate Records.”

Brenda broke into hysterical sobs as the metal cuffs snapped tightly around her manicured wrists. She was led out of the boardroom in full view of eighty employees gathered in the glass atrium.
Agent Morales then turned her gaze toward Mark.
