Chapter 9 - THE NIGHT THE COMPANY ALMOST DIED

Aurelio called an emergency meeting.

Miriam explained the findings.

Dana presented the transaction trail.

I described the matching amounts and the suspicious timing.

For the first time, the entire pattern became visible.

Money had disappeared.

The company's liquidity collapsed.

Crane offered financing.

The agreement contained terms that could transfer control of the shipping assets.

Aurelio sat silently.

Then he asked:

“Who benefits?”

Dana answered.

“Crane's investment group. Potentially anyone coordinating with him.”

Aurelio looked toward Victor's empty chair.

The silence was painful.

Miriam spoke.

“We have enough to refer the matter to investigators and seek emergency legal remedies. We still need to establish who authorized the transfers.”

Aurelio nodded.

“Do it.”

Then he looked at the room.

“We're not signing away the company.”

One executive frowned.

“Without financing, we may fail payroll.”

Aurelio looked down.

“I know.”

Another asked:

“What about the ships?”

“We negotiate with lenders.”

“And if they refuse?”

Aurelio took a breath.

“Then we sell assets transparently, protect employees where we can, and face the consequences.”

The room fell silent.

I watched him.

For the first time, I saw the difference between a man desperate to preserve power and a man trying to preserve something worth saving.
