Chapter 10 - Sunlight on Michigan Avenue

Two years after that unforgettable night at Table Four, the golden morning sun bathed the panoramic glass windows of my new executive suite on Michigan Avenue.
The polished brass plaque beside the double doors read:
CLARA STERLING & MERCER: FORENSIC FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
What had started as a mutual pursuit of truth had evolved into one of the most respected, sought-after financial investigation firms in the Midwest.
The office air was sweet with the fragrance of blooming white orchids and freshly brewed artisan coffee.
Footsteps clicked softly across the hardwood floor.
Daniel walked into the sunlit office, dressed in a relaxed linen shirt and charcoal trousers, holding two cups of cappuccino from our favorite café downstairs.
He set a cup on my desk, smiling warmly as he looked down at the quarterly reports.
“How do the numbers look, Partner?” Daniel asked, his eyes glowing with quiet affection.
I leaned back in my leather chair, taking a sip of the warm coffee, looking out over the sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan.
“The numbers look perfect, Daniel,” I smiled, resting my hand over his on the mahogany desk. “Every single account is balanced.”
Daniel smiled from the depths of his soul, turning my hand over and gently interlacing his fingers with mine.
“What about dinner tonight?” Daniel asked softly. “A quiet table for two by the river.”
I looked into his eyes, feeling the profound, unbreakable peace and unconditional trust that had grown between us through the storm.

“Only if it’s with you, Daniel,” I laughed softly.
The cold texts, the broken promises, the cruel lies, and the shadows of betrayal were gone forever. Standing tall in the warmth of truth, surrounded by honor, prosperity, and authentic love, we were finally whole—sovereign, triumphant, and free for all the years to come.
