Chapter 8 - The Handcuffs by the Poolside

Senior Detective Marcus Cole stepped forward, holding an unsealed criminal warrant signed by Chief Magistrate Judge Harrison Miller.
“Julian Sterling, Victoria Sterling,” Detective Cole announced with formal, clinical authority. “You are under arrest pursuant to an indictment charging Attempted Aggravated Homicide of a Minor, Statutory Child Endangerment with Depraved Indifference, and Grand Insurance Fraud Conspiracy.”
Victoria backed away toward the bookshelves, shrieking in panic. “Harrison! You can’t do this! I am a Sterling by marriage! If the press finds out, the company’s stock will plummet!”
“You are no longer a Sterling, Victoria,” Harrison replied with absolute finality. “As of ten minutes ago, my legal team filed the expedited petition for the immediate termination of your marriage, the forfeiture of all marital equity under the fraud clause of your prenuptial agreement, and the permanent revocation of your parental rights.”
Two female state troopers stepped behind Victoria, twisted her manicured arms behind her back, and snapped heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
Click. Snap.
Julian offered no resistance. He fell to his knees on the carpet, weeping like a broken child as federal marshals secured the transport chains around his waist.
As the two prisoners were escorted down the grand hallway, through the terrace doors, and past the very pool where they had staged their horrific crime, the entire household staff stood along the lawn in dead silence.
The gardener who had been hosing the patio, the kitchen maids, and the chauffeurs watched in righteous satisfaction as Victoria’s four-inch designer heels dragged through the wet grass, press photographers—alerted at the main gates—capturing every angle of their humiliating fall.
The patrol cruisers’ sirens echoed down the long gravel driveway, fading into the afternoon breeze.
On the terrace, the dark water of the pool was calm again, reflecting the clear blue summer sky.
Harrison walked over to Elena, looking at the young woman who had altered the destiny of his family.

“Elena,” Harrison said, his voice rich with profound emotion. “Come inside. It is time we talk about your future.”
