Chapter 4 - The 4K Lens Above the Pergola

================================================================================

Within four minutes, a high-resolution outdoor tablet was brought to the patio table under the shaded awning.

Elena sat wrapped in a heavy navy wool blanket, sipping warm tea that Mr. Henderson had quietly placed in her trembling hands. The sting on her cheek was dull, but the knot in her stomach was tightening. She knew how wealthy families operated: when a scandal occurred, the servant was always the scapegoat.

Harrison sat in the wicker armchair, resting his cane against the table. Standing beside him was Chief of Estate Security, Marcus Cole.

Victoria stood with her arms crossed, tapping her foot nervously on the marble tiles. “Harrison, this is completely unnecessary. My word as the mother should be more than enough. You're giving this girl undue consideration.”

“In my enterprises, Victoria,” Harrison replied without looking up, “we examine data, not drama.”

Marcus Cole tapped the tablet screen, pulling up the multi-angle camera feeds timestamped 11:42 AM.

The video played in crystal-clear, uncompressed 4K resolution on the 12-inch display:

Angle One (The Sunroom Exit): Victoria was clearly seen wheeling the mahogany stroller onto the terrace. She did not engage the mechanical footbrake on the rear axle. Her phone rang, and she casually walked backward into the air-conditioned sunroom, turning her back on the infant entirely.

Angle Two (The Wind & The Tray): A sudden, violent gust bent the canvas canopy. The stroller lurched forward on the wet incline. Elena was shown walking with the silver tray. The instant the carriage moved, Elena dropped the tray without hesitation and sprinted across the slick marble.

Angle Three (The Underwater Camera): The pool’s internal safety sensor captured the underwater footage. Elena dove in fully clothed. The video showed her struggling against the sinking weight, tearing her fingers against the jammed plastic harness, pulling Leo to safety, and throwing him onto the stone deck with her last ounce of air.

Angle Four (The Slap): Victoria sprinted out of the sunroom after the baby was already safe on the deck. She scooped up the child and violently struck Elena across the face while the girl was still choking on swallowed water.

The silence on the terrace was deafening.

The only sound was the faint rustle of the lakeside trees in the wind.

Marcus Cole closed the tablet screen with a sharp, resonant snap.

Victoria stood paralyzed, her hands trembling, her throat making a dry, clicking sound. “Harrison... I... I panicked! I was so terrified for Leo... I didn't see her jump in... I thought she was the one who caused it...”

Harrison slowly stood up.

He towered over his daughter-in-law, his eyes radiating a lethal, absolute fury that made the summer air feel like sub-zero ice.

“You left an unbraked stroller beside a ten-foot drop to take a personal telephone call,” Harrison whispered, his voice vibrating with thunderous wrath. “You watched this brave young woman risk her life in the deep end, and you struck her like a coward to cover your own criminal negligence.”

Harrison raised his cane and pointed it straight at the estate gates.

“Get off my terrace, Victoria. Before I have you removed in iron restraints.”
