Chapter 7 - DOMINIC LEARNED WHY HIS SON WAS TERRIFIED OF HIM

The footage convicted the past.

But Noah still feared Dominic.

That confused him.

Victor was gone.

Hargrove arrested.

Rafael detained.

Why did his son still hide when Dominic raised his voice?

Clara knew.

“You sound like them.”

Dominic stared.

“What?”

“When you're angry.”

“I never hurt Noah.”

“I know.”

“Then?”

“He doesn't know the difference between a loud man protecting him and a loud man threatening someone.”

Dominic fell silent.

Clara continued.

“You shout orders. Men move. Doors lock. People disappear from rooms.”

“That keeps him safe.”

“Maybe.”

Then:

“But to a four-year-old, it might look exactly like the night his mother died.”

That hurt.

Dominic changed.

Not overnight.

He stopped shouting around Noah.

Stopped ordering guards to carry him.

Stopped forcing therapy sessions.

Started sitting outside closets.

Waiting.

One evening Noah hid beneath his bed.

Dominic sat on the floor.

“I'm here.”

No response.

“I’m not pulling you out.”

Twenty minutes.

Then one small hand emerged.

Dominic did not grab it.

He placed his own hand on the floor.

Palm up.

Noah touched one finger.

That was all.

Dominic cried later where nobody saw.

Except Clara.

She said nothing.

Good.

A week later, Noah handed Dominic a drawing.

Two figures.

One small.

One tall.

Holding hands.

No blood.

No car.

No pearl.

Dominic framed it.

Meanwhile Victor was located in Canada preparing to leave under a false passport.

Federal authorities arrested him.

Dominic did not interfere.

Old Dominic would have wanted personal revenge.

New Dominic looked at Noah and understood revenge had already taken two years from them.

Enough.

Victor’s prosecution exposed money laundering, bribery, and the cover-up around Elena.

Dominic’s own businesses came under investigation too.

He cooperated where necessary.

Some holdings were shut down.

Money seized.

Associates left.

His empire shrank.

He accepted it.

Clara once asked:

“Does that scare you?”

“Yes.”

“What part?”

He looked toward Noah.

“Finding out I built something my son should never inherit.”

May you like

That became the beginning of the next chapter of his life.
