Chapter 6 - THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ACCIDENT

Julian's accident had never been an accident.

Three months earlier, his SUV had been traveling through the Catskills when its brakes failed.

The vehicle struck a guardrail.

Rolled down an embankment.

And caught fire.

Julian survived with serious injuries.

His driver did not.

Doctors initially feared permanent nerve damage.

Julian spent weeks unable to walk without assistance.

Then his condition improved.

But while recovering, he learned that someone had tampered with the vehicle.

Someone inside his own organization.

He suspected Victor.

But he had no proof.

So he continued using the wheelchair.

He wanted his enemies to believe he was vulnerable.

He wanted the traitor to reveal himself.

And when Elena arrived with a forged reference, Julian immediately became suspicious.

He watched her.

Tested her.

Waited for her to make a mistake.

Instead, she cared for him.

And slowly, he began falling in love.

But he refused to admit it.

Because loving someone meant trusting them.

And trust had nearly killed him.

Now he understood the terrible irony.

He'd been so afraid of betrayal that he'd become the person who betrayed the woman he loved.
