Chapter 10 - THE NIGHT GIOVANNI CHOSE PEACE
When Giovanni learned Tyler had threatened me, he became frighteningly quiet.
We were sitting in my kitchen.
Lily was coloring at the table.
Giovanni listened while I explained what happened.
Then he looked at me.
“Are you safe?”
“Yes.”
“Did he touch you?”
“No.”
“Has he contacted you again?”
“No.”
Giovanni nodded.
Then looked toward Lily.
She was drawing a purple horse.
He smiled faintly.
“Good.”
I studied him.
“Giovanni.”
He looked back.
“No violence.”
His expression changed.
I continued.
“I know who you are.”
He remained silent.
“But I won't let Lily grow up believing men solve problems by frightening people.”
Giovanni looked at me.
Then nodded.
“You're right.”
I blinked.
“Just like that?”
He smiled.
“Just like that.”
He reached for my hand.
“We'll handle it legally.”
And he did.
My attorney documented Tyler's threats.
We reviewed custody arrangements.
And Giovanni kept his distance from the legal process unless I specifically asked for help.
For the first time, I realized something important.
