Chapter 5 - The Toluca Highway Blueprint

While Santiago underwent intensive, clandestine physical rehabilitation inside his locked private study, Mateo Flores dismantled the mystery of the car crash from two years and seven months ago.
On the third night of the ten-day agreement, Mateo delivered a digitized reconstruction to Santiago and Julia.
"On the night of October 14, 2023," Mateo explained, pointing to the satellite telemetry maps, "you were scheduled to take the tollway from Querétaro back to Mexico City. At 7:15 PM, Rogelio called your phone, claiming an emergency shipment of refrigerated vaccines had broken down on the old federal highway via Toluca."
"He told me the local police were threatening to seize the cargo unless I signed an on-site release manifest," Santiago recalled, his jaw tightening.
"We located the former fleet mechanic who serviced your armored SUV that afternoon," Mateo continued, sliding a signed confession across the desk. "He was paid three hundred thousand pesos in cash by Rogelio’s personal driver to partially drain the hydraulic fluid from the electronic stability control module. The vehicle handled normally on straight highways, but the moment you took the sharp downhill curve at Kilometer 42 in the fog... the brakes lost ninety percent of their pressure."
"They intended to kill me outright," Santiago whispered.
"Yes," Julia said, reviewing the original hospital intake scans from that night. "When you miraculously survived with only a compressed lumbar fracture, Tomás volunteered to become your private attending physician. They couldn't risk you recovering and auditing the company books, so they kept you in the chair permanently while they systematically bled your empire dry."
Mateo pulled up the banking audit on Barrera Logistics.
"Over the last thirty-one months, Rogelio and Camila have forged your administrative proxy to divert $41.8 million from corporate operational escrow accounts into shell accounts in Panama and Zurich. They scheduled next Tuesday's shareholder summit to invoke the Permanent Incapacity Clause under the corporate bylaws, officially stripping you of your fifty-one percent voting majority and ratifying Rogelio as Executive Chairman."

Santiago stared at the balance sheets, a cold, predatory smile spreading across his face.
"They want my company," Santiago said softly. "Let’s make sure they receive everything they have earned."
