Chapter 7 - The Chairman's Uncut Rose

“Let’s review the ledger, Julian,” Ethan spoke, his voice calm, steady, and commanding absolute silence across the room.
Ethan pointed to the first slide on the monitor:
The Phantom Suite Reservations: Over the past eighteen months, Julian Croft had systematically flagged Suite 901 and Suite 904 as "Out of Order — Maintenance Required" for forty-two weekends, using the luxury penthouses to host private gambling clubs and cater luxury banquets for municipal associates.
The Siphoned Payroll Escrow: $142,000 in frontline employee health benefits and overtime allocations had been diverted to an offshore shell account named Croft Hospitality Consulting LLC.
The Kickback Scheme: A thirty percent markup on all imported luxury seafood and liquor orders, routed through a distribution firm registered under his brother-in-law's name in Indiana.
Croft’s skin turned an ashen shade of grey. Sweat beaded heavily along his hairline, dripping onto his silk tie. “Ethan... listen to me! That money was used to secure municipal permits! The city was threatening to hold our facade renovation permits!”
“You bribed city officials with funds stolen from your own cleaning staff,” Ethan replied, his eyes cutting like diamond blades. “And when an exhausted father arrived with a sleeping child, your front desk was so well-trained in your culture of contempt that they told him to go sleep in a ditch by the highway.”
Ethan turned his gaze toward Patricia and Karla.
Patricia burst into tears, covering her face with both hands. “Mr. Vance, please! We were just following Mr. Croft’s instructions! He told us never to allow walk-ins or unverified corporate guests onto the ninth floor! We didn't know it was you!”
“That is the entire tragedy of your character, Patricia,” Ethan said softly.
The room went dead silent.
“If a human being only deserves your kindness when they wear an expensive watch or hold a billionaire's title,” Ethan continued, “then you have no understanding of hospitality. You do not belong in this industry. And you certainly do not belong in a building that bears my family's name.”
Ethan turned to Marcus Cole. “Execute the termination notices for Patricia and Karla immediately, effective without severance. And hand Julian’s files directly to the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.”

Two federal marshals, who had been waiting quietly in the reception lounge, stepped into the boardroom with open badges.
Croft collapsed backward into his leather armchair, staring at the ceiling in ruined, hopeless silence as steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
