Chapter 11 - THE HOUSE WHERE HER MOTHER DISAPPEARED

Rebecca Shaw traced the records to a property in Connecticut.

A private estate.

Owned through a company connected to my father.

The house had been used as a residential treatment facility years earlier.

The records suggested my mother had been sent there after a disputed psychiatric evaluation.

I stared at the documents.

“Why?”

Rebecca looked grim.

“Your mother was attempting to separate from your father and protect her assets.”

My heart broke.

“She wanted to leave him.”

Rebecca nodded.

“And he may have used the legal system to discredit her.”

I closed my eyes.

For twenty-three years, my father had called my mother unstable.

Weak.

Unfit.

Now I understood those words might have been weapons.

Rebecca continued.

“We've located a former employee who remembers her.”

I looked up.

“What did she say?”

Rebecca hesitated.

Then answered.

“She remembers Eleanor leaving the facility.”

My breath caught.

“When?”

“Seventeen years ago.”

I stared.

“Where did she go?”

May you like

Rebecca looked at me.

“We're still trying to find out.”
