Chapter 9 - THE WOMAN WHO FOUND THE FIRST CLUE

June Parlow was the first person to discover something wrong with the evidence.
She had been reviewing the auction reports when she noticed an unusual access entry.
Laurel's credentials had been used from a device registered to the hotel's executive network.
But Laurel's event tablet had been connected to the ballroom's operations network all evening.
Two different devices.
Two different locations.
June printed the logs.
Then called Laurel.
“I found something.”
Laurel sat upright.
“What?”
“Your account was accessed from Sutter's office.”
Silence.
Laurel whispered, “What?”
June continued.
“Not your tablet. His desktop.”
Laurel felt cold.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
She closed her eyes.
Caleb Sutter.
Her manager.
The man who had suspended her.
The man who had known her for eight years.
Laurel swallowed.
“June, don't confront him.”
“I wasn't planning to.”
“Copy everything.”
“Already did.”
Laurel smiled faintly.
“That's my girl.”
June laughed.
Then lowered her voice.
“Laurel?”
“Yes?”
“There's something else.”
Laurel froze.
“What?”
“The transfer went to a holding company.”
“Which one?”
June hesitated.
“WadeSphere Capital Partners.”
Laurel stopped breathing.
Preston.
Of course.

But the truth was worse than she'd imagined.
Because Preston hadn't acted alone.
