Chapter 13 - THE MOONWARDEN PROJECT
Emma didn't want to become a ceremonial figure.
She wanted to build something useful.
With support from independent advocates and territorial leaders, she helped establish the Moonwarden Project.
Its purpose was simple.
Protect wolves from coercive mating arrangements.
Provide independent legal advice.
Support workers whose housing and healthcare depended on pack leadership.
And preserve the history of families who had resisted abuses of power.
Emma insisted that the project remain independent.
Nathaniel agreed.
She also refused to let her relationship define her work.
At the first public meeting, someone introduced her as Alpha Mercer's future mate.
Emma stepped toward the microphone.
“I'm Emma Whitmore.”
The room quieted.
“I love Nathaniel Mercer. But my work doesn't belong to him.”
Nathaniel smiled from the front row.
Emma continued.
“Every wolf deserves the freedom to choose a bond without fear of losing their job, home, or place in the pack.”
Applause filled the room.
Emma looked toward Nathaniel.
He stood.
Not to claim her.
May you like
To support her.
And Emma realized that was the difference between the love she'd once begged for and the love she'd finally found.
