Chapter 13 - THE LIFE SHE CHOSE

Sadie reclaimed her real name.

Nora Bennett.

She updated her legal records.

Found a new apartment.

And began rebuilding her life.

Elena and Sophie moved nearby.

For the first time in years, the sisters could share ordinary things.

Coffee.

Grocery shopping.

Birthday parties.

Arguments about whose turn it was to cook.

Sophie adored her aunt.

She called her Aunt Nora.

The name no longer frightened her.

Roman kept his distance.

He was dealing with the legal consequences of his past.

He had begun dismantling his criminal operations and separating lawful businesses from the organization.

It was not simple.

And it did not happen overnight.

Nora watched carefully.

She refused to confuse promises with change.

Months passed.

Roman attended counseling.

Cooperated with investigators.

And began learning how to live without controlling everyone around him.

One afternoon, Nora received a letter.

From Roman.

It contained no demands.

No declarations of ownership.

No expensive gifts.

Only a few lines.

I used to believe love meant keeping danger away from you, even if I had to become the danger myself.

Now I understand that love without honesty becomes another kind of prison.

I am trying to become someone who no longer needs to frighten the people he loves.

You don't have to answer.

Nora read it twice.

Then folded it carefully.

That evening, she called him.

Roman answered on the first ring.

“Nora?”

She smiled faintly.

“Would you like to have coffee?”

He was silent.

Then:

“Yes.”

She laughed softly.

“It's just coffee.”

Roman's voice warmed.

“I know.”

But they both understood.

May you like

It was more than coffee.

It was the first choice Nora had made without fear.
