Chapter 7 - THE SISTER WHO WANTED EVERYTHING PERFECT

Emma called Clara the following week.
She wanted help organizing photographs from the wedding.
Clara agreed.
Of course she did.
But when she arrived, Emma was waiting with a complaint.
“Mom says you've been avoiding everyone.”
Clara frowned.
“I've been working.”
Emma sighed.
“Clara, you can't keep using Daniel as a reason to disappear.”
Clara went still.
Emma continued.
“I know you loved him, but it's been two years.”
Silence.
Clara looked at her sister.
“Do you know what day you got married?”
Emma blinked.
“What?”
“October seventeenth.”
Emma frowned.
“Obviously.”
Clara swallowed.
“That was supposed to be my wedding date.”
Emma stared.
For the first time, she looked genuinely shocked.
“What?”
Clara nodded.
“Daniel and I booked Willowmere for October seventeenth.”
Emma's face changed.
“I didn't know.”
Clara laughed sadly.
“I told you.”
Emma looked down.
“I must have forgotten.”
Clara's eyes filled.
“I know.”
Silence.
Then Emma whispered:
“Why didn't you say something?”
Clara looked at her.
“Because you were happy.”
Her voice broke.
“And I didn't want to ruin it.”
May you like
Emma covered her mouth.
For the first time, she seemed to understand what her sister had been carrying.
