Chapter 1 - He Left Me to Die

"MY HUSBAND LOCKED ME INSIDE OUR HOUSE WHILE I WAS IN LABOR—THEN CHOSE HIS MOTHER’S BIRTHDAY OVER OUR BABY.

Two days later, he came home smiling with leftover birthday cake.

He thought he was walking into the same house.

The same wife.

The same life.

Instead, he opened the door to a nightmare—and a court order that would destroy everything he thought he still had.

The first contraction hit so hard that the glass slipped from my hand and shattered across the kitchen floor.

“Liam…”

I pressed both hands against my stomach.

“Something isn’t right.”

My husband barely looked up from his phone.

He was already dressed in a charcoal suit, his hair perfectly styled, his expensive watch shining beneath the kitchen lights.

Tonight was his mother Victoria Vance’s sixty-fifth birthday.

And apparently, nothing was going to ruin it.

His phone suddenly rang.

He put it on speaker.

Victoria’s irritated voice filled the kitchen.

“Don’t tell me Audrey is pulling one of her stunts again. If you miss my champagne toast, Liam, I will be humiliated.”

Another contraction slammed through me.

I doubled over, struggling to breathe.

“Liam, please. I think the baby is coming.”

He rolled his eyes.

“Audrey, stop being dramatic.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

I was thirty-eight weeks pregnant.

My doctor had warned both of us that my blood pressure was dangerously unstable.

She had specifically told Liam that if I experienced severe pain or bleeding, I needed to get to the hospital immediately.

But he didn't care.

He grabbed his keys.

“You always do this,” he snapped. “The moment my family needs me, everything becomes an emergency.”

“Please…”

“You can wait a couple of hours.”

Then he walked out.

I heard the front door close.

A second later—

BEEP.

The electronic deadbolt engaged.

I froze.

He had used the smart-home app to lock the house from outside.

He had deliberately locked his pregnant wife inside.

Then he left for his mother’s birthday party.

That's when I saw the blood.

A dark crimson pool was spreading across the white kitchen tiles.

My knees nearly gave out.

I crawled toward the front door and desperately pulled at the handle.

Nothing.

The reinforced smart lock wouldn't open.

The contractions became unbearable.

My unborn daughter was coming.

And I was trapped.

Alone.

Bleeding.

Terrified.

With shaking hands, I grabbed my phone and called 911.

“My husband locked me inside…”

My voice barely came out.

“I’m pregnant. I’m bleeding. Please…”

The dispatcher was speaking, but the room was already spinning.

My phone slipped from my fingers.

And everything went black.

TWO DAYS LATER…

The front door finally opened.

Liam walked inside laughing.

Victoria followed behind him, carrying a box filled with leftover birthday cake.

They were smiling.

They were talking about the party.

They expected me to be there.

Maybe angry.

Maybe exhausted.

Maybe ready to apologize for “ruining” Victoria’s special night.

But the moment Liam stepped across the threshold—

His smile disappeared.

He stopped dead.

His eyes moved across the room.

The blood.

The broken glass.

The damaged door.

The overturned furniture.

And then—

He saw the papers waiting on the table.

A court order.

His hands began to shake.

“What… is this?”

Victoria stepped closer.

Then she saw the document.

Her face went pale.

Because Liam had no idea what had happened during those two days.

And he had absolutely no idea what the court had just taken away from him.

THE HOUSE.

THE ACCOUNTS.

AND SOMETHING EVEN MORE IMPORTANT.

May you like

The baby he had abandoned was no longer the only thing waiting for him.

THE TRUTH WAS
