Chapter 8 - THE HALE EMPIRE DOESN’T VANISH

Richard’s legal problems did not make Hale Development disappear overnight.
That mattered.
Four thousand employees had nothing to do with what he did to me.
The company’s board placed him on leave.
Then removed him after investigators disclosed:
Undisclosed Whitmore acquisition conflicts.
Payments through affiliated entities.
False disclosure statements.
Personal use of corporate security resources.
Financial links to Coleridge.
His father, Thomas Hale, claimed ignorance.
The board investigation found he knew about distressed-land acquisitions but not the aircraft scheme.
He still approved transactions without adequate conflict review.
He resigned as chairman.
Hale Development survived under professional leadership.
Several Whitmore parcels were subject to civil claims.
Some returned through settlement.
Others stayed with Hale after Whitmore received financial restitution.
Not everything could be unwound neatly after three years of development.
That was reality.
Richard’s personal assets were frozen where legally appropriate.
Our divorce became almost anticlimactic compared with the criminal proceedings.
Prenup.
Separate trusts.
Marital accounting.
I asked for no revenge premium.
Only what the law gave me.
May you like
And freedom.
