Chapter 8 - KELSEY LEFT

Kelsey and Dad separated.

Not because Grandma demanded it.

Because Dad finally admitted they brought out the worst things in each other.

Kelsey accepted a plea arrangement related to what happened that day and separate consequences tied to other conduct.

I did not follow every legal detail.

Grandma deliberately kept me away from most of it.

“You are not required to become an expert in what adults did to you,” she said.

I liked that.

Kelsey wrote me a letter.

I did not read it for three months.

When I finally did, the worst sentence was the first:

I loved you like my own daughter.

I almost threw it away.

Then I kept reading.

Later she wrote:

I understand now that believing I loved you did not make the way I used your emotions loving.

Better.

Then:

You owe me nothing.

Best.

I never replied.

Not then.

Maybe never.

May you like

That was allowed.
