Chapter 1 - TABLE FOUR

Use the supplied opening as the official Chapter 1.
It ends with me, Eleanor Sterling, standing in the center of my son Leo’s rehearsal dinner with hot gravy soaking through my catering uniform.
His fiancée, Bianca Bellamy, has just humiliated the “old server” she believed I was, accused me of stealing an earring she had hidden herself, ordered me to kneel, and poured hot sauce over me when I refused.
Then I remove the wig.
The glasses.
And reveal myself.
My son whispers:
“Mother?”
Bianca immediately changes tactics.
She calls me manipulative.
Insane.
Controlling.
Then I place the hidden recorder on the table and let thirty family members, hospital donors, business partners, and wedding guests hear her real voice.
The insults.
The false theft accusation.
The command to kneel.
The splash.
The laughter.
Leo stands motionless.
But the most important sound in that ballroom is not Bianca’s recorded voice.
It is the silence that follows.
Because three members of the catering staff are staring at Bianca with expressions that tell me this was never the first time.

And one of them is crying.
