Chapter 7 - THE DIVORCE HE NEVER BELIEVED WOULD HAPPEN

Blake assumed Kira would return.

Not immediately.

Maybe after a week.

Maybe after two.

She'd be angry.

They'd talk.

He'd apologize.

They'd start again.

That was how relationships worked.

At least, that was how theirs had always worked.

Then Sarah delivered the legal paperwork.

Blake stared at the documents.

“You're serious?”

Sarah looked at him.

“Kira is.”

He swallowed.

“She can't just end our marriage.”

Sarah's expression hardened.

“She can seek a divorce.”

“We've been married less than a day.”

“And she spent that day watching you choose another woman.”

Blake looked away.

Sarah continued.

“She's not asking for your money.”

He looked up.

“What?”

“She wants an equitable resolution of the legal and financial issues. She has her own career and assets.”

Blake swallowed.

“Where is she?”

Sarah shook her head.

“That's not information I'm giving you.”

He stared.

Sarah stepped closer.

“Blake, you keep asking where Kira is.”

Her voice softened.

“But you never asked how she got to the point where leaving was easier than staying.”

Blake said nothing.

May you like

Because he didn't know the answer.

And he was beginning to understand that he should have known.
